HOW TO DO A CT - SCAN EXAMINATION

 Ct scan procedure:-

There are different different type of procedures are done on ct-scan  machine, but the basic procedure is same.

→Patient preparation is done according to procedure, such as all metallic ornaments from scan area are removed, provide patient gown to patient.

→First of all verify the patient's details with patient's file correct patient and correct procedure is prescribed , check billing is done.

→Enter pt's details such as name, age, sex, weight, protocol name, select the part which is diagnosed in the diagram presented in the computer.

Position the pt. on couch by centering with the help of laser light

(If scan for the head then use head rest and if other parts are scanned then use body rest)

Fix the patient with the help of immobilization devices.

There are some buttons/switches present in the gantry to fix the patient centering over the couch.

These buttons are work with center point.

There are buttons for table up-down in-out , laser beam on off and to fix or zero the reference

CENTERING POINT FOR CT EXAMINATION -

Main landmarks for ct examination-

Always off laser light and fix the target by pushing the second last button it will display zero on the gantry screen.

Then technologist out from the room

Press the table move button give on the console, then press start scan button.

The scout image of selected part is displayed then select part properly and shield some important part such as eyes, gonads in a feature provided in computer.

Shift with mouse is used to up-down the selected part.

Always ensure that collimate patient properly to don't give unnecessary radiation to the patient

Then move the table, press the start scan button

Keep you crow like eyes on patient if he/she move then press stop scan button Immediately.

If want next contrast series then click on next series push the contrast manually or through injector with a appropriate flow rate  prescribed by the doctor with the check of vital signs, urea creatinine levels.

Start the scan, scan display on monitor check and click on End exam.

Scan is completed
