Mammography also known 'mastography',
There is low power x-rays ( less then35 KVp) are used to diagnosis of Breast diseases.
Breast Image created by using ionizing radiation is called Mammogram.
Machine used in mammography is called mammography machine.
Mammography machine :-

(1) x ray tube
(2)compression paddle
(3)x ray detector
(4)stand
(5)control console
(1) mammography x ray tube - x ray tube used in mammography is not similar to modern xray tube used in genral purpose radiography.
→The anode used in mammography machine is made up of molibadenum or rhodium.
Because low power x rays are used in mammography.
It is usual to employ lower-energy X-rays, typically Mo (K-shell x-ray energies of 17.5 and 19.6 keV) and Rh (20.2 and 22.7 keV) than those used for radiography of bones.
(2)compression paddle - it is used to press breast and equillization in all side.
→It is made up of low attenuation material.
→Situated between x ray tube and breast.
(3)x ray detector - usually digital radiography detectors are used.
But In conventional mammography machine radiography cassette with one side imalssion film is used which is 8×10 inch & 10×12 inch.
(4) stand - stand used to hold x ray tube, compression paddle , detector.
(5)control console - situated behind the stand with lead barrier protection to radiation.
There is control switches, exposure battens with indicators are available.

The pathologies are detected by radiologist by viewing these images on viewing box.
Why mammography is usful for womens?Women whose breast cancer was detected by screening mammography before the appearance of a lump, tumor or other symptoms commonly assume that the mammogram "saved their lives"
